Bringing Summer Fun to Jo Malone London in Stamford
Recently, I had the pleasure of working at Jo Malone London in their beautiful new Stamford boutique - at the time the space was just four weeks old but already full of charm, complete with a stunning exposed brick fireplace.
To celebrate the launch of their seasonal fragrance, Raspberry Ripple, the brief was simple but joyful: “summer fun.” In-store, I hand painted playful motifs including seagulls, sandcastles, ice creams, raspberries, and of course, personalised customer names. These bespoke illustrations weren’t just artwork, they were keepsakes, designed to delight customers and capture the spirit of the season.
What makes live calligraphy and illustration so special in these activations is the theatre of the experience. Customers are invited to watch as their gift is created in front of them, transforming a store visit into a memorable moment. Not only do they leave with a unique piece to treasure, but the brand connection feels deeper and more personal.
Although my expertise is rooted in calligraphy and engraving, I relish opportunities to stretch myself creatively and this project was a perfect example. The painting element added a fresh dimension to my work, while still aligning seamlessly with Jo Malone London’s elegant brand identity.
