We teach you the tricks to turn your hand to modern calligraphy whatever your skillset and will guide you step-by-step through our carefully structured lesson plan which will take you through guided exercises, creating the letters of the alphabet and turning them into elegant words. Finally, you’ll work onto our lovely card templates, designed by Kirsten Burke, the UK’s leading calligrapher.
We’ll build your confidence by gradually adding to your understanding of the techniques which make modern calligraphy so beautiful. By the end of the class you’ll have progressed from making basic strokes to being able to connect letter forms and create your own calligraphic words and phrases.
As well as guiding the whole class with demonstrations and instructions, your tutor will be there to provide you with one-on-one tuition and troubleshooting any issues you may come across.
Throughout the workshop you’ll learn about letterforms, use metallics, and try some colour blending. With these techniques in your repertoire, you'll soon be creating greeting cards, party invitations and artworks for your home and loved ones!

Join Vicky at Sew Lovely in Loscoe and learn how to create beautiful lettering in this relaxed and informal workshop. Modern Calligraphy is dynamic and has energy so you can relax and have fun creating your own style.
Do not be put off if you think you do not have nice handwriting or that you cannot draw as that really doesn't matter. We will teach you the tricks to turn your hand to modern calligraphy whatever your skillset.
Our 2.5-hour dip pen workshop is specifically designed for beginners. We’ll build your confidence by gradually adding to your understanding of the techniques which make modern calligraphy so beautiful. By the end of the class, you’ll have progressed from making basic strokes to being able to connect letter forms to create your own words and phrases. With demonstrations and instructions, your tutor will be there to provide one-on-one tuition.
You will use metallics and also try some colour blending and with these techniques in your repertoire, you will soon be creating bespoke greeting cards, invitations and maybe even some beautiful artwork to dress your home or gift to a loved one.

Learn to create eye-catching lettering designs for chalkboards, whether it is for a bar, restaurant or wedding. In this five-week course, discover how to adapt your lettering to form designs, add decorative elements, and scale-up designs.
Striking Chalkboards are a fun way to get any message across. By understanding the structure of lettering, and how to combine different sizes and styles together, you will be able to create attractive and cohesive designs. You will be guided through adding shadows, volume, colour, flourishes, banners and illustrations as well as different font styles. To get the most from your design, including table plan layouts and menus, you will learn how to scale up a design and avoid any pitfalls.
In the final session of the course, you will apply everything you have learned to a project and receive lots of guidance from your tutor throughout.
This course is suitable for all, whether you are just starting out or looking to find new ideas and inspiration.

Wedding Course
From Monday 30th October for 5 weeks. Every Monday 7pm - 9pm.
Weddings are such magical time and we would absolutely love to help you to add the personal touch to your (or someone else's) special event. From save the date cards all the way through to the thank you notes, there is so much to think about and calligraphy is integral in setting the style of any wedding/event or special celebration.
Throughout the course, you will discover the tips and tricks to producing eye-catching calligraphy to elevate invitations, envelopes, table numbers, place settings, and wedding vows. We will look at how to bring seasonal elements into your designs to really capture the atmosphere.
As you progress, you’ll gain the pen control needed to create elegant calligraphy - a skill your guests will notice and love.
This course will give you the enviable skill of being able to turn your hand to different styles, and you’ll also be able to use them for any other special occasions in the future. By the end of the course, you’ll be fully equipped to create special details to enhance any celebration.
Please note that the basic principles of modern calligraphy aren't covered - this is a 'Beyond Beginner' level course. You don't need to have much experience, simply to know how the nib and ink work and how to control the pressure and release of the pen.
Every session of this course will be recorded, so if you miss a week for any reason you will able to watch the recording to catch up!

I am super-excited to be part of the Creators market at Stockyard in Melton Mowbray this year.
Join me for an introductory workshop on Saturday 3rd June teaching you the basics of brush pen calligraphy.
Modern calligraphy is about lettering that has energy and flow. Just like with a pointed nib, it involves the pressure and release of the brush to get the gorgeous contrast of thick and thin lines.
Our worksheets teach you how to combine strokes to form letters, then turn them into words and phrases. You’ll spend time working on a beautiful brush lettering template created by our Master Calligrapher Kirsten Burke. Your tutor will give demonstrations as well as provide one-on-one support and troubleshoot any individual difficulties you come across.
Before you know it you'll be creating greeting cards, party invitations, and artworks for your home and to give as gifts.
